Copytools: Handier Writing via Google Docs
By Tom Chandler on Oct 24, 2006 in Copywriting, Writing
In the old days, the word processor you used was as much a testament divine intention as a rational decision. You used WordPerfect (or Wordstar) because that’s what god intended you use, and except for those cranks pounding on typewriters, you didn’t look too far afield.
Today, there are writing tools of every color, and though I’m pretty conservative about straying (once again I find myself outside the bell curve with OpenOffice), one new tool has captured my attention; Google’s new Web-based word processor.
Everyday word processor? Not on your life. Handy bridge between my laptop and desktop? Absolutely.
I’m not the kind of writer who sits down and plows through a piece end-to-end. I pick at things, usually have several going at once, and hate the idea of sitting in my office all day when 14,162′ Mount Shasta hovers over my backyard (guess where I’m writing this).
Google Docs allows you to work on the same document from multiple PCs, and might even offers some client application due its powerful collaboration features.
It’s a free tool but a powerful one. Give it a few minutes before you need its features. Keep it in your quiver, and roll it out when it fits. Impress yourself, and maybe a client too.
