The Underground Will Resume Service Shortly

I’m at my parent’s home in Central California, my brothers and I converging on our home because of the death of my father.

Those of you who’ve gotten The Call know the jarring mix of emotions that come with it, and right now we’re digging through the accumulated belongings of a man who — like many who lived through the Great Depression — threw little away.

It’s a little like an archeological excavation, with the artifacts getting older as you dig deeper, until finally — at the bottom of one box — we found the little cards he handed out to people at his high school graduation.

I’ll be back and blogging by the end of the week.

  5. Everyone: thanks so much for the kind thoughts. I’m back at home (after 34 hours of driving in five days), and frankly eager to get back to work.

Within hours of learning of his death, I wrote a short homage to my father on my Trout Underground blog, which helped my mental outlook a lot.

Who knew this writing stuff could be useful?

  7. Tom,

So very sorry to hear about your loss. We lost Mom on the 13 of last month; so I know how jarring that call can be. My prayers go out to you and your family.

  9. Hi Tom,

Just wanted to say sorry for your loss.

Sometimes relationships with our parents aren’t always great so the best way to deal with such a loss is always remember the best they gave us, the great times we shared with them.

The pain does fade but the good memories stay with us forever.
