When I discovered my to-do list in a pull-down, I decided to never put anything personal on the same computer that surfs the net.

Imagine submitting a story and seeing stuff like - get zucchini out of garden, sweep front porch, do mending. . . .

Graham: "It's sort of like giving an accountant a copy of Microsoft Word."

I agree; I wasn't kidding when I said the tool is a bit more linear than what writers are used to. And I've received a half-dozen emails (why don't people just comment) asking for spreadsheet samples, pointers -- even an ebook.

Good warning about posting sensitive data online. Hosted solutions are interesting, but I don't really see the point to using those that replicate what your PC does, only slower and less securely.

This marks me as more a retro-grouch than early adopter...

Hey Tom,

The spreadsheet should be in every freelancer's arsenal, but I've always been a little uncomfortable with them. It's sort of like giving an accountant a copy of Microsoft Word. (Okay, calm down, just *pretend* you know what you're doing... where's the "Sum" button anyway so I can finish this thing?)

I just wanted to point out that I like Google Gadgets like their spreadsheet (yes, it is sluggish at times) but I'd be careful using them for sensitive material like your income statements, etc. Yes, it is supposedly "secure" but my rule of thumb is: never put anything on the Internet that you can't afford to lose to hackers.

My two cents (three, if you count the long preamble...)
