If you’re one of the few freelance writers that isn’t already a pathological liar when it comes to deadlines, then consider this handy, non-hosted tool: The “Instant Excuse Ball.”
Modeled on the famous “shake-and-answer” Eight Ball, the Excuse Ball contains 20 different excuses, so if you’re writing a “dog ate my Web copy” email to a client - and you’re a poor liar - this is surely a worthwhile investment.
At the Copywriter Underground, we never stop looking for ways to make your life better.
Keep making excuses writing, Tom Chandler.

Hey, I know what I’M giving for Xmas this year!
Posted 06 Aug 2008 at 4:26 am ¶What I want is the job writing the excuses for the next version.
Posted 06 Aug 2008 at 6:09 am ¶Sorry, I’ve already applied :)
Posted 06 Aug 2008 at 6:55 am ¶I was going to apply, but when I wrote my cover letter and hit “Print” the paper got jammed, and then I ran out of ink, and by the time I got all that sorted, the power went off and — surprise, surprise — I hadn’t saved the document (because, you know, I always print it first before I save it, so I didn’t even think about it) and so the whole thing got lost and though I tried to squint and salvage words from the crumpled, smudged papers I couldn’t quite read it but then the baby needed changing so I had to forget it all anyway.
I might apply next year though.

Graham: Excellent start, though I suppose those best at producing excuses never would get around to applying.
