I agree with the little formula!

more choices = more confusion.

I wanted to do an online training course in SEO to boost my marketing, and then was bombarded by many options, did end up choosing stomper though.

Same thing when it came to re-designing my website, loads of choice. then pick one, and then they offer loads of different CMS systems that i can choose from.

So that formula thing, is 100% how i feel about the net right now.

Good article too, i think we should all rally and support small business as oppose the the large ones.

Graham: If I'd only written ads or direct mail or success stories my entire career, they'd have fitted me for a tight white jacket years ago.

For that matter, "specialisation" comes in many forms. A writer could specialize vertically, concentrating a lot of skills on a single industry.

Frankly, much of this revolves around packaging; offering a lot of different services ala carte is probably not a prescription for wealth; combining those talents and filling a unique niche probably is.

Hi Tom,

Though I tend to agree, there are many who say specialization is the way to go. The "jack of all trades" route seems to give the perception of watered down quality.

This has been somewhat of a concern for me since I am a jack of all trades, and can offer website design, basic layout, etc. I used to offer these different services through different websites. But now I've decided to bring all my services under one roof, concentrate on writing, and offer these others as my "value-added" services.

But really, what it comes down to is that I like doing all these different things. Keeps the day interesting. Today I did some website work, designed and wrote a newspaper ad, tweaked the design of a brochure letter, and rewrote some entries in a Knowledgebase library.

If I was just writing 500-word SEO articles all day, I think I'd go batty...
